Tampa man found dead; homicide suspected
TAMPA — A 44-year-old Tampa man was found dead late last night from upper body trauma, according to the Tampa Police Department.
Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a call around midnight about a man bleeding at 211 S 22nd St., Apt. B, and pronounced Samuel Hernandez dead on the scene. Police say the homicide division is investigating the incident and speaking to a person of interest.
Detectives are still interviewing witnesses and there have been no arrests, according to authorities.
Hernandez had a criminal history of domestic violence, according to records from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. In 2007 he was arrested and charged with false imprisonment and kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon — all felonies. He was taken to the Hillsborough County Jail and released the next day on bail. There was never a conviction. Hernandez was also arrested in February for a DUI — his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
