Dogs on death row claimed by owner

Money and Paco got a reprieve. The two pit bullterriers were claimed by their owner, Sherman L. Britten, Thursday morning at Pinellas Animal Services, where they had been quarantined for 10 days after one of them killed a Boston terrier.

The dogs were scheduled to be euthanized Saturday if they were not claimed. Britten, 33, was required to pay $260 in fees and faces other fines.

The owner of the terrier, Jean Post, 80, began to cry when told the dogs had been released. "I’m scared to death of them," she said. "I’m going to get Mace."
