Car rolls off highway near Tropicana Field
ST. PETERSBURG — A 29-year-old St. Petersburg man was arrested on drunk driving charges early today after his Dodge Charger veered off Interstate 175 and rolled down an embankment near Tropicana Field, authorities said.
The crash occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Investigators say Jason Patrick Donahue was driving west on I-175 near 16th Street when he lost control. The car went off the road, hit a speed limit sign and two light poles, then flipped over and went down the embankment. It finally stopped near Fifth Avenue S, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Donahue and his passenger, 29-year-old Brianna Velivis of Pinellas Park, sustained minor injuries, the FHP said. A state trooper investigating the crash determined that Donahue was impaired and charged him with driving under the influence. Donahue was taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
